Yes, I feel things deeply
Tell me — should I not?
Might being not turn out to be
The way this mess we all begot?

If I decry in all our lives
Pathetic lack of good regard,
Much underhanded roguery,
Small mutual reward

If I insist that others treat me
As, in honor, I treat them
No matter what the passing mood
Or emotional whim

If I am true enough a friend
Feel others honestly
For kindness very grateful
For its opposite sad be

And you decide to label such
Melodrama — cool —
I’d rather live warm and alive
Than in a frozen jaded pool
