Are Room Rents Falling?

This poet has noticed, in the past few days, a slight diminution in the rents requested for rooms here.

No college students with affluent co-signers this year.

They’ll have to fall further before the poet — or anyone in her financial position (and there are a lot of us) — will be able to access shelter.

Average rental for the most undesirable rooms has been $600/month, plus over $100 in utilities.

What has happened to our societal standard of no more than 30% of income in rent?

This poet’s entire regular income is just over $900.

She has $200 in medical expenses alone.

$600 plus $100 plus $200 is everything she has.

How much do you spend on everything in the whole world other than rent, utilities and medicine each month — even when you’re trying to be careful?…

She’s noticed a few $500 ads here lately.

If they sink another hundred, maybe a few of us disabled, elderly homeless will actually be able to access a normal, if continuously impoverished, existence.

While there’s life — and every single night that continuing actuality is a terrifyingly active question — there’s hope.

Right?
