An order placed for a chicken soup
and again a hand enters in coop
rummaging through their group
an afraid one caught by its foot
Scared and bemuse
flock saw the one leave
wondering what awaits his fate
they began to talk in whispering note
“Freedom awaits” declared Chuck
considered wisest among the flock
“but what if, man kills us all”
a timid voice spoke in turmoil
“Are you out of your bloody mind
why would man kill, he seems kind
providing us our share of grain
a place to shelter and water to drink”
as Chuck spoke in fierce tone
the flock began to calm down
At night when the shop closed
coop’s lock mistakenly left loose
thoughts of fleeing suddenly arose
when flock found way to vamoose
Seeing this Chuck suddenly exclaimed
“whats wrong with you folks, are you stupid
world outside is not for timids
surviving costs your best efforts
what if you got run by a vehicle
or else be a dinner of some predator
man takes our good care
come inside, come here”
The flock folks caught in a fix
world outside was a big jinx
better to believe and stay as it is
with lock open they went to sleep
