I Am Not Unavoidable

(When friendship begins to sour)

*****

I am not unavoidable
Not your responsibility
You don’t have to dread
Apparent necessity

To think me both ungrateful
And sunk in negativity —
A veritable paragon
Of unreasonability!

Conjecturing both good and bad
In situations all,
Creating — or preventing?
Those situations’ fall

To what’s too oft the bottom line
Among our human un-kind
Who frequent to each other be
Relating most destructively

I can take care of myself
If you think I can or not —
By your many kindnesses
Further duty you’ve not bought

If those themes of which I sing
Displeasure to you start to bring
Nor find your mind at liberty
To cherish our diversity

I can much less frequent come
There my distant hideout from
If with peaceful heart you bless
I willingly will do with less

In any but this one respect:
Each other hold in high respect —
If I an inconvenience am
I do know how to scram
