(In order to continue her work, the poet lived for a full year in a tent in the Sacramento Valley.)

Let me well glory in what I possess:
A million diamonds, oh, everywhere!
Sufficient recompense for all duress
Required this night to see them sparkling there

Upon the starry grass of all the lawn
Upon the tree my little tent outside
Such transformations all have undergone
Decked each more beautifully than a bride

Someday I will recall this magic night
Warm, then, enough my hands don’t stiffly ache
From cold each time that I sit down to write
And this display but recollection make

Let me in timely way appreciate
Circumstances fond memories create
