(Ever again?)
*****
I remember creamy sauces
Elegant surrounds
Muted conversations
Sweet musical sounds
I remember Beauty
And her sister, Graciousness
I remember soft and light
Silken summer dress
Remember when by cultural
Presentations brought to weep
And many the delightful
Possessions which were mine to keep
I remember little gifts
Given and received by me
When life a little lighter was
Made with some variety
Those times are past, referred
By me as those which came before
For not a penny have I spare
Ever any more
For any but the maintenance
Same day in, day out
Which some folks love to swear
Is what a lifetime’s all about
I cannot deny
My happiness, sweet if and when
All those gentle luxuries
Become mine again
But I can do without those things
Right now, and it’s okay
For I have what is needed
To do my proper Work today
