Thrust one finger in the air to naysayers

Who all tell me there must be something wrong

And that I should change who I am.

Fool some poor boy to fall in love

With an optical illusion

Brushed on a hollow puppet with plastic smiles.

How is it fair to control people’s lives?

To dominate women’s minds and bodies?

Why can’t we just be ourselves instead of

Masked cowardly actors on the world stage?

I’ve much better things to be doing

Than wait around for some perfect guy to come

While I press a pause button on myself.
