The Choice of a House,
by J. W. Cassandra

Death said, „Choose a house!
But what do you choose, think about:
If you enter the House of Fate, into shadow,
When you enter the House of Life, into light

Will pass your own pristine entity!”
High voice, „Can’t I choose another one?”
Death said, „ It doesn’t matter which:
Either way, you’ll take the road…

And if you will be through with your roam,
The House opens a gate to you,
What did you secretly yearn for –
Not, what is loud – what has no place.

It will give home for the homeless,
For a pilgrim foot a shelter –
And which gate is what awaits you,
Your pristine entity judges, opening it…

If you enter the House of Fate, there
Stiffened substance of existence waits for you,
On that’s shadow, irresolute, fugitive,
Only the past, what can come…

You sacrifice desire, hope: your being,
To cognize your mortal essence.
And if it matures you to the core of Nothing,
Your liberation will only then be achieved…

If you enter the House of Life, you are waited by
Perpetually flowing, clear light,
On the flow of that the future bursts to bud,
And unknown melodies open up time.

Time, that’s whirl carries you off at last,
And you cognize your immortal essence.
This fills your eternal-young being,
And your move sacrifices: it keeps up earth and sky.”

Death said, „Choose then a house!”
If you enter the House of Fate, you sacrifice;
If you enter the House of Life, you sacrifice –
Anyhow, this is your eternal pristine entity!”

Thin voice, „I choose: life!
I choose the House of Life, full of light,
I choose eternal ageless lights!
I choose the Way that walks earth and sky…”

Death said, „What you do chose, it is just as well,
House-warming fluted by the light: is a mortal song…
Its poignant melody is hope: listen!
Its poignant rhythm is: Eternal Being, the fool,

Whose feet are drawn by desire to the Way, Dual!”
